Cody Dock’s bridge is a vital link in Lea Valley Walk allowing walkers to follow the tidal River Lea to its confluence with the Thames.
An existing temporary bridge on a dam at Cody Dock entrance will eventually be removed to allow large vessels, especially those with masts, to enter or leave. The new crossing is designed to give clearance for masts or funnels.
At present the two crossings are side by side with the new moveable pedestrian bridge having been in place since 2023.
On Saturday, as part of Lighting Up The Lea festival day, the new bridge was rolled open.
The bridge is manually rolled from its rest position on undulating rails using winches. The operation took about fifteen minutes with two people winding.
